Lydia is a newly hired youth leader. She was born in Fairbanks and has lived here her whole life, meaning she has much experience with the nature and wildlife of Alaska. She spent her childhood climbing trees, mushroom hunting, raising chickens, and playing in the forests of Fairbanks.
π
Lydiaβs hobbies and interests include hiking, baking and cooking, biking, animal research, volunteering, and babysitting. For the past two summers she has been a high-school intern with ASI (Alaska Songbird Institute). ASI has nest boxes throughout Creamer's Field and UAF and the interns job is to monitor all of the active tree swallow and chickadee nests. There are also elementary and middle school age mentors involved that join in at Creamer's Field. This summer she worked on a project that was included in the Anchorage Museum surrounding conservation and how it connects to the work she does with birds. Lydia has also spent summers volunteering at Calypso Farm and going on many hikes.
π
Lydia went to a waldorf school through junior high and has been homeschooling for most of high school. She lives happily with her two dogs, Maggie and Lily, and had chickens and a rabbit as a kid. Lydia is so excited to join forest school and be a part of the wonderful learning and exploring taking place!
