Lovisa (Loh-vye-suh) grew up all over the United States, but spent the most time being homeschooled on a small permaculture farm in Northern Michigan. Growing up on a farm instilled a reverence for growing things and getting her hands dirty. In particular, she became passionate about raising sheep, learning about the fiber arts and becoming more in touch with sustainable textiles.

After high school, she moved to Michigan’s beautiful Upper Peninsula to attend Northern Michigan University. She completed her bachelor’s degree in biology, with a focus on ecology and a minor in environmental outreach. While she was at NMU, she became a Community Advisor and also ran a student community garden. Her favorite classes were the labs that required hiking to bogs and identifying plants. While she was a Community Advisor, she also found joy and purpose in helping students and planning student activities.

She recently moved back to Alaska with her partner and dog in order to be closer to family. She has been substitute teaching various elementary classes, and would like to return to school to obtain her teaching certificate. She has many hobbies, including backpacking, camping, kayaking, baking sourdough goodies, knitting and beading.
