Karin grew up moving back and forth between Ely, Minnesota and Buena Vista, CO; both outdoor recreation paradises. Ely is surrounded by 2 million acres of protected forest with over 2000 lakes. There her summers were spent swimming in beautiful bodies of natural unspoiled water. Buena Vista is nestled between beautiful mountain peaks and the Arkansas River where she enjoyed beautiful night skies, local rivers and streams, and trail hiking.

After graduating from college with a teaching degree, Karin launched into a teaching position in the village of Kobuk, Alaska; another outdoor paradise. It sits on the banks of the Kobuk River in the shadow of the Brooks Range. It is surrounded by a vast expanse of forest and tundra. There Karin taught in a combined 2nd-5th grade classroom for a few years and then spiraled up to teach many of the same students in grades 6th-8th.

After leaving Kobuk, Karin worked for a non-profit organization coordinating a youth mentoring program much like Big Brothers Big Sisters. She did that for a couple of years before having two children and taking 10 years off from her career. She currently works for a local homeschool program as an Advisory/Contact Teacher.
